This Is for You, Not Them: Why Beauty Portraits Aren’t Just Vanity

...and why your face absolutely belongs on your wall.

You’ve celebrated everyone else.
Your kids. Your partner. Your parents.
You’ve made sure they are remembered in photographs.

There’s probably a framed picture of your toddler covered in spaghetti hanging somewhere. Maybe even one of your cat dressed as a reindeer. (Hey, we’ve all done it.)

But where are you?

For a lot of the women I photograph — especially those who’ve been in the “put everyone else first” chapter for, oh… a couple of decades — the idea of stepping in front of the camera just for themselves feels a little foreign. Maybe even indulgent.

And then this thought creeps in:
“Isn’t it vain to want beautiful photos of myself?”
Or the big one — “Would I really hang a portrait of myself on the wall?”

Here’s the answer:
No, it’s not vain. It’s brave. It’s beautiful. And honestly? It’s overdue.

You Deserve to Be Seen (Not Just in the Background of a Birthday Photo)

This isn’t about ego. It’s not about being extra (though let’s be real, you’ll look amazing).
It’s about showing up for yourself — maybe for the first time in years — and saying:

“Hey… she’s still in there. And she’s kind of a big deal.”

A beauty session is a reminder that you’re still a woman with strength, soul, and style. You’re allowed to take up space. In fact, you should.

What If That Wall Space Isn’t Meant for Family Photos Only?

Yes — I am absolutely suggesting you put your face on your wall.
Not because you're full of yourself. But because you're full of life.

We hang wedding photos, baby photos, kid artwork, and vacation pics with zero hesitation. So why does a portrait of you suddenly feel “too much”?

(Hot take: it’s not.)

Imagine this: You walk by that image every day and think,
“Dang. I showed up. I did that. And I look GOOD.”
Try it. It’s oddly empowering — and slightly addictive.

Where Would You Hang a Portrait of You?

Let’s get creative here, because your artwork doesn’t have to be front and center in the living room — though it absolutely can be.

Here are some favorite places my clients have chosen:

  • Over the bed – a quiet, powerful reminder when you start and end your day.

  • In the walk-in closet – your daily pep talk before you take on the world.

  • Above a reading chair or vanity – a corner that’s just for you? Yes, please.

  • In the hallway – right next to everyone else’s framed moments, because you belong there too.

  • Even the bathroom – sounds odd, but hear me out: a gorgeous framed portrait, styled just right, in a calm spa-like space? Chef’s kiss.

The best spot? Anywhere you’ll actually see it.
Because you deserve to take up space in your own story — and in your home.

Not Just a Photoshoot. A Moment You’ll Be Glad You Took.

This session isn’t about filters or flawless skin.
It’s about looking at the final image and thinking, “That’s me. I forgot how much I like her.”

And no, you don’t need to lose ten pounds or wait until you feel “ready.”
You are not a renovation project. You are already worthy of being seen, celebrated, and remembered now.

So no, it’s not vain.
It’s powerful.
It’s healing.
And it might just be the best thing you’ve done for yourself in years.

Let’s make something beautiful. For your wall. For your legacy.
For you.
