If you’re looking for clean, modern, and meaningful inspiration for your baby’s one-year milestone session, this Simply Pure photoshoot with little Jett is full of ideas. From neutral studio styling and wooden birthday props to Gerber puff smiles, cozy stuffed animals, and the most adorable baby mullet, this session shows how to capture a one-year-old's personality in a timeless way. Perfect for parents planning a first birthday photoshoot or photographers wanting fresh milestone ideas.
There are some kiddos I’ve had the honor of photographing since the very beginning—and sweet Jett is one of them. I met him as a tiny newborn, swaddled and sleepy, and now here he is… standing tall, full of opinions, full of personality, and sporting possibly the most adorable blonde baby mullet the world has ever seen.
This Simply Pure Standing Session took place in my white studio—clean, calm, and minimal—designed so all the focus stays exactly where it belongs: on Jett’s expressions, his soft baby features, and the little story of who he is right now.
Every one-year-old has their own comfort zone, and for Jett, the best introduction was a cozy circle of stuffed animals.
We started the session by settling him right in the middle of a pile of soft, cuddly friends. 🧸
The familiar textures and cozy vibes helped him warm up to the space, the lights, and me — because even though we’ve met many times, those big studio strobes can feel very official when you’re only one.
A little snuggle, a little exploring, and suddenly he was ready to play.
Once he was comfortable… it was time to bring out the true miracle worker: Gerber puffs.
Neutral, clean, and toddler-approved — they’re basically the unofficial snack of the Simply Pure line. He snacked, he smiled, and he gave me those adorable “busy eating, don’t mind me” expressions every parent knows and loves.
Toddlers + snacks = instant cooperation. It’s a science.
While Jett enjoyed his beloved puffs, I discovered the ultimate recipe for genuine one-year-old laughter:
Step 1: Let him snack.
Step 2: Wait until he's mid-chew.
Step 3: Add a perfectly timed fart noise.
The result?
Instant giggles.
Cheeks full.
Eyes sparkling.
This age loves simple joys, and nothing beats the comedic power of snacks + silly sounds. Those mid-chew, belly-bouncing laughs ended up being some of my favorite images from the whole session.
One of the sweetest parts of the session was photographing Jett with his stunning mama.
She lifted him high in the air, both of them glowing — and with baby number three on the way, it felt especially meaningful.
And this time… they’re having a girl!
Jett and big brother Brendan are about to have a new baby sister to love, and capturing this season before their family grows again was such an honor.
To celebrate turning one, Jett played with our beautiful wooden birthday cake — simple, timeless, and perfect for the clean aesthetic of the white studio.
But the highlight wasn’t the cake itself…
It was the candle.
He picked up a single wooden candle, held it proudly in his little hand, and blew it out with all the determination of a kid twice his age.
Tiny cheeks puffed.
Full concentration.
The most triumphant “I did it!” expression afterward.
It was one of those pure toddler-magic moments that parents treasure forever.
We need to take a second — a respectful, admiring second — to talk about Jett’s baby mullet.
This child is walking around with the softest, fluffiest, most charming blonde mullet a one-year-old has ever worn. It’s feathery. It’s golden. It bounces when he laughs. And it has fully earned its own section in this blog post.
Every time he giggled at my ridiculous sound effects, those little wispy ends danced like they were celebrating right along with him. It added a whole extra layer of personality to his portraits, and honestly… I think it deserves an award.
Classic baby milestone photography moment?
No.
Iconic Simply Pure moment?
Absolutely.
Between the snacks and the silliness, there were these beautiful moments where he paused, looked straight into the camera, and gave me those thoughtful one-year-old expressions.
Curious.
Gentle.
Still very much a baby… but slowly becoming this new, bigger version of himself.
These are the portraits parents frame, display, and cherish — the kind that never lose their magic over time.
These sessions strip away distractions and keep the focus exactly where it belongs — on your child’s sweet personality, growing confidence, and all the tiny details that change far too fast.
Clean white studio.
Expert strobe lighting.
Soft textures.
Natural interactions.
And your little one being exactly who they are.
Parents tell me these become their most treasured pieces of artwork in their home — and that’s exactly why I pour so much heart into them.
If your little one is approaching a big moment — sitting, standing, or turning one — I’d love to help you capture it.
Send me a message, and let’s create something simple, meaningful, and beautifully timeless for your home.
