The Photographic Design Ecosystem
Education and tools to help portrait photographers attract clients who value artwork
Less “can I just get the files?” More “where should we hang it?”
The phone rings. You pick up… sweating bullets.
Because you already know how this goes. In their mind, you’re just like every other photographer out there.
A million files. For pennies.
And here it comes… How many digitals do I get?
For a long time, you played along. Cup out, Oliver Twist style. “Please, sir, may I have some more?”
But then one morning you woke up with your fist in the air.
“ARE WE NOT PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHERS?! Our work isn’t finished until someone is living with it on their wall!”
Yeah. Me too.
Here’s the truth: our clients didn’t come up with “just the files” on their own. We taught them that. Somewhere along the way, digital files became the easy default, and artwork quietly slipped off the menu. (I’m not pointing fingers. I’ve got a few fingers pointing back at me, too.)
And if you’re new to this industry, I’m sorry nobody told you it didn’t always look like this. There was a time when people picked up the phone knowing artwork was part of the deal.
So let’s take it back. Let’s make what was old feel new, trendy, and totally coveted again. Artwork is the star. Digital files are the supporting actor, right where they always belonged.
I can hear you now. “YES! Let’s change the world! …But how?”
GLAD YOU ASKED.
Welcome to the revolution. Officially, it’s called The Photographic Design Ecosystem.
It’s education and digital tools for portrait photographers who are done begging for scraps and ready to make artwork the main event again.
Not just at the ordering appointment. Everywhere.
How you market. How you answer that phone. How you consult, present, and sell. All the way to the moment your client hangs their artwork and steps back to admire it. (We all know that moment. It’s the best one.)
No pushy sales scripts. No awkward upsell. No sweating bullets.
Just clients who call already picturing it on their walls.
And I’m not handing you theory from an ivory tower. I’m Courtney Ranck-Copher, a Master Photographer, and I still run a working portrait studio. Everything in here comes from real clients, real phone calls, and real walls.
HI, I’M COURTNEY.
I’m a portrait photographer in Pullman, Washington, and a Master Photographer. I’ve been photographing newborns, families, beauty, and headshots since 2010.
And I’m not some guru on a yacht telling you how easy this is. I’m in the trenches with you.
I’ve had the “just the files” phone call. I’ve watched a gorgeous session turn into a sad little download link. I’ve stared at the calendar every summer when the college kids leave town and the phone goes quiet. (Pullman in July is a ghost town. Bring snacks.)
Here’s what changed everything for me: I stopped treating artwork like an add-on and started designing the entire client experience around it.
Now my clients come in for a private viewing, fall in love with their portraits, and order artwork in person. I don’t negotiate on price, and I don’t beg. My clients aren’t buying files. They’re buying the thing that hangs over the fireplace for the next twenty years.
That wall doesn’t lie.
These days, I also teach. My course was accepted as an official PPA workshop, and I’ve poured everything I’ve learned into The Photographic Design Ecosystem, so you don’t have to figure it all out the hard way like I did.
I get it. I’ve been there. And I’ve got you.
SO, WHERE DO WE START?
Right at the beginning. Before the phone even rings.
Because by the time a client calls you, they’ve already decided what they think you sell. And if all they’ve seen is beautiful photography on a screen, guess what they’re expecting to buy? (Yep. Files.)
So the first piece of the Ecosystem tackles the very first impression: showing your real artwork in beautifully styled interiors, so clients start picturing it in their own homes before they ever reach out.
More tools are on the way. But this is where the revolution starts.
From “That Would Look Incredible in My House!” to “I NEED That in My Home!”
Your website shows off your photography. Beautifully, I’m sure.
But does it show what you actually sell?
Here’s what nobody tells you: having gorgeous products is the easy part. Photographing them so clients practically reach through the screen to grab them? That’s where things get messy.
Maybe you’ve done the tabletop thing. Album on a table, folio box at a jaunty angle, a eucalyptus sprig you bought specifically for this moment. You moved the props. You moved them back. You chased the light across your kitchen like it owed you money. And the result? It shows the product, sure. It just doesn’t show it living in anyone’s home.
Or maybe you’ve tried room templates. The décor screams “not my brand.” The frame looks nothing like what you sell. And that same gray sofa keeps popping up on every other photographer’s website. (We’ve all seen that sofa. That sofa gets around.)
I get it. You know what your artwork could look like in the right space.
You just need a practical way to show it.
GIVE YOUR CLIENTS SOMETHING TO PICTURE.
Inside Sell the Portrait, Not the Pixels, you’ll learn to combine photography of your actual wall art, albums, and folio boxes with thoughtfully created interiors that match your ideal clients’ style.
Not a generic room. Not someone else’s frame. Your products, in their kind of home.
The album sitting on their coffee table. The folio box tucked on their bookshelf, ready to grab. The framed portrait that finally pulls their whole living room together.
That’s how clients go from “wow, pretty pictures” to “where’s that going in my house?” And it happens before they ever pick up the phone.
The course is in development right now. Hop on the waitlist and you’ll be the first to know when enrollment opens.
